ST. JAMES’S SOCIAL CLUB. ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING. From Our Own Correspondent. OTANE, August 17. An enthusiastic meeting of those interested was held in St. James’ Sunday school room on Wednesday night to consider a proposal to form a Social Club. The Rev. Mr Hall presided, and in explaining the reasons for calling the meeting said that it had long been felt that some such organisation in connection with Church work was necessary. It was unanimously decided to form a club to be known as the St. James’ Social Club persons 16 and over to be eligible for membership. Alembers will meet every Wednesday night from 7 to 10.30 p.m. The subscription was fixed at 2/6 a year. Tho following committee, which will make the necessary arrangements for the opening night next week, was appointed:—The Rev. Air Hall (chairman), Aliss Mason (secretary), Airs It. Britten, Messrs W. F. C. Spargo, H. Carter, R. Britten, A. Williams and R. Riseborough, with power to add to the number. It was decided to purchase a billiardette set and a ping-pong table and other games as funds permit. Two sets of ping-pong bats have been donated and several offers of financial assistance have been received. Tho committee would be grateful for tho donation or loan of any games as it desires to cater for all ages and tastes. After the meeting had closed billiardette was played for about an hour, a set having been loaned for tho evening. Players and onlookers found it a very fascinating game. BASKETBALL FIELD DAY. A very enjoyable and interesting afternoon was spent on the recreation ground on Wednesday when a seven-a-side basketball field day was held. Following arc tho results of the games played:— Otane v. Waipawa 0.G.. 6—5. Tikokino v. Waipawa 0.8., 3—2. Otane v. Tikokino, 5—4. Waipawa O.G. v. Waipawa 0.8 . 1 3. Waipawa 0.8. v. Otane, C—4. Waipawa O.G. v. Tikokino. 6 —2. Miss A. Searle performed the strenuous task of refereeing all the games in a. most able and impartial manner. DENTAL CLINIC. Mr Elliott, District Superintendent of Dental Hygiene, paid a visit to the Otane dental clinic on Thursday and expressed pleasure at the satisfactory manner in which the c’inie was conducted.
