FRUIT MARKETING
SELLING IN LONDON Selection of Own Broker PROPOSAL REJECTED [By Telegraph—Special to “Tribune.”) WELLINGTON, Aug. 2. At the fruit conference a discussion took place to-day on the question of growers being allowed to nominate their own brokers, Mr. A. Brown moving a remit that growers should have the option of nominating any broker from a panel approved to sell their fruit 111 the United Kingdom. Speaking to tho motion, Mr I'ursyth said that the conference had been treated with a lack of cqpfidence. Mr Campbell had ieturned from overseas, yet a full report of his views concerning overseas marketing had not been made available. Other delegates took the view that the nomination of brokers and control were irreconcilable. At the chairman’s suggestion, Mr Campbell was asked to attend and the conference went into committee to hear him. The remit was lost by 12 votes to six, Another remit that growers be allowed to nominate their own brokers in the United Kingdom was lost, also a remit that if there is no pooling next year the destruction of fruit be not allowed by the board's agents without the consent of the growers. A recommendation was made that a system of pooling lie introduced. The chairman said that the policy of the board for fruit sold in Ur-rlnnd was to have it rendered to indi mil accounts. Owing, however, to various factors, such as quotas, the development of new markets, f.o.h. sales and tile Government attitude on the guarantee, it was possible that the board would have to revert to pooling.
Mr A. Brown moved as an amendment that a system of pooling be introduced for districts desiring it, and this was adopted. The conference also agreed to a proposal for the setting up of an export advisory committee in districts requiring it. CONTINUANCE OF GUARANTEE Resolution at Conference (By Telegraph-Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 2.
