SWIMMING

The Heretaunga Club EXECUTIVE MEETING Mr H. B, Poppelwell presided over the usual weekly executive meeting of the Heretaunga Swimming and LifeSaving Club held last evening. Advice wus received from the club’s life-saving instructor that six members had sat for their bronze medallion examination, and tho whole six were successful. This wits considered an excellent result, and t/ie secretary was instructed to write a letter of appreciation to Mr Wiig. The emergency committee reported that they had met and definitely decided to hold the club night on Thursday night, when tho Te Awa Club’s challenge lor the Henry Williams Polo Cup will bo played. The programme adopted was as follows:-—Boys’ race, 50 yards; ladies' race, 50 yards; girls’ race, 25 yards; open handicap, 50 yards; B grade race, 25 yards ; 1! grade dive; open dive; third distance ladies’ championship, 50 yards, breaststroke, for McKee Cup; and teams’ race. It was decided to make Thursday’s carnival the last to count lor aggregate points trophies, although it is expected to hold further club nights. The emergency committee also advised that it had arranged for the third series for the Rainbow Shield and Baird Pennants to be swum on Friday evening. Their actions were approved. The points concerning the events at tho school children's carnival were gone into, and the winners of the cups resulted as follows:—Dunkley Cup (girls’ championship), J. Wedc. (Mahora); Kirkpatrick Cup (boys’ championship), R. Fox (Convent). Tho secretary was instructed to get into touch with the Havelock and Mahora clubs, requesting them to have the Pennants held by them at tho carnival on Friday evening in order that the presentation can be made.
