Three New Appointees SWEARING-IN CEREMONY 113_y I' 1 ' iii Pretw Association.) WELLINGTON, March . .12. The three new K.C. ’s, Messrs. A. H. Johnstone, J. B. Callan and C. -IL Weston, were sworn in to-day at the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, and Justices Herdman, Nlacgregor, Blair and Kennedy, were on the bench. The Speaker of the House, Sir Charles Statham, and the Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. U. Cobbe, were among those present in the body of the Court. After Messrs. Johnstone, Callan and Weston had read and signed the formal declarations, which were handed to the Chief Justice by the registrar (Mr. W W. Samson), they were addressed in the following words by the Chief Justice: “Well, gentlemen, the Governor-Gencral-in-Council having been pleased to appoint each of you to be t one of His Majesty’s counsel learned in the law, will you take your seats within the Bar?” Messrs. Johnstone, Callan and Weston then moved into the front bench and took their places. The next procedure was the following question addressed to each in turn by the Chief Justice: ”Mr. , you do move 1 ?” To this the new “silks” responded by a grave abcisance, then turned and bowed to their fellow practitioners behind them. Other counsel stood and bowed. Messrs. Johnstone, Callan and Weston took seats again and without further ado the Bench turned its attention to making fixtures for the sitting. When later the Court adjourned for a brief time the now “silks” were warmly congratulated by counsel and other friends on having attained a high legal honour.
