CROSSING COLLISION
Motorist’s Lucky Escape SMASH AT WAIPAWA A fortunate escape from serious injury vas experienced by Mr John Black, of Tamumu, at Waipawa last evening, when the car he was driving was struck by a train on a level grossing. Mr Black was crossing the line just above the Waipav railway station on his way from Tam ..mu when he was struck by the eng.i.c of the 6.10 train from Hastings. He saw the train approaching and attempted to avoid it, but was unable to miss it. He pulled tfib car round and travelled in the •anio direction as the train for some distance, until the car turned end over end, finally landing upside down across a ditch. It was extremely fortunate that the ▼chicle came to rest across a drain, as it allowed the driver to escape without serious injury. He wa s attended by Dr. Walker and removed to the IVaipukurau Hospital suffering from bruises and injuries to the ribs. The body of the car was badly wrecked.
