PARTY STAMPEDE

CHILDREN OUT OF HAND Wild Rush to Secure Toys AMAZING SYDNEY SCENE (By Telegraph—Pre,? Asen.—Copyright.) (Received 22, 12.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 22. Breaking through a police cordon, 12,000 screaming children rushed wildly in a frantic quest for toys at a big Christmas party in the showgrounds. The strenuous efforts of the police •nd officials to restore order were unavailing. The children got out of hand and grabbed toys of every description from the stalls and from one another. Hundreds of mothers who were not admitted tried to force their way into the ground. Large numbers of children were lost. Finally the unidentified kiddies were paraded in front of the mothers. Scores of children suffered minor injuries. The reason for the stampede is believed to be due to the kiddies being kept standing waiting too long for their liking for the distribution o" the toys.
