CHINESE CUSTOMS LAUNCH. EUROPEAN OFFICERS SHOT. HONG KONG, April .17. A Chinese Customs launch struck a mudbank at low tide in the early hours of the morning at Pang Chong Island, 15 miles off Macao, and was attacked by pirates, who shot the European officers. Mr E. Pearce, the chief officer, is missing, and it is believed that Mr Baldwin died from wounds. The Chinese engineer and boatman were both injured. The launch is missing. Mr Baldwin was formerly in the British Navy and was the China Fleet lightweight boxing champion.
