THE NAPIER MEETING PROGRAMME IN SUNNY WEATHER | PASSED WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT, I — The stands at Napier Park were well i filled yesterday afternoon for the motor-cycle sports. There were good I fields in each event, and the Napier ■ Motor Racing Club is to be congratu- | lated upon attracting such a number i of expert riders. A gusty breeze from I the south-west whipped up the dust, giving riders and public an uncomfortable time towards the close of the programme. Save this element there was little to mar the outing. 11. Maughan lapped the fastest time by registering 58 3-5 in the Hawke’s Bay Middleweight Championship, closely followed by P. Coleman and Aherns with 59sec. Aherns, incidentally, consistently lapped the course in 59sec. D. Collison, of Palmerston North, won the North Island light weight championship after an exciting tussle with L. Sowerby. C. E. Lowe won the Alex. Fox Cup rather easily from P. McGhee, and the Limbricls Cup, for novices, was won by N. Atkins. kins. There were no misjiaps. Results of the various events were as follow: — Limb rick Cup novice handicap, 5 laps.—N. Atkins (34 Douglas), ssec., 1; R. Styles (34 Douglas), ssee., 2; K. Low (34 Aerial), lOsee., 3. Collison (24 Harley) 1; L. Sowerby (2| Velocette) 2; C. E. Lowe (24 ) 3. Time, 7min. 56 1-5 see. From a rolling start and with a gusty, troublesome wind to contend with, eight contestants got away. By the time they had covered two laps they were definitely sorted out, with Sowerby, Collinson and Fenton well away from the ruck and fighting hard for positions. These positions were held till the close of the fourth, but just at the corner out Sowerby cut in, challenged Collison and secured the inside running. From then till half way through the seventh these two htAig together, with Lowe and Fenton half a length back battling for third. Twothirds of the way home on the last lap Collison whisked past Sowerby, and after thrilling work at the some corner Collison drew ahead to win by a bare two lengths. Lowe, a length away, came third, followed by Fenton. Hawke’s Bay middleweight championship, 7 laps.—P. Coleman (34 Enfield) 1, H. P. Aherns (34 Zenith) 2, J. Hamilton (34 Norton) 3. A gruelling race, which for five laps seemed to be a tussle only between Coleman and H. Mangham, two old rivals, with Aherns tailing them at a half-lap distance. Midway in the sixth Aherns closed the gap and as the three fought for places at the home turn the race gathered in excitement. Mangham’s machine developed trouble about 100 yards from the post and the race then came between the two others with Hamilton half a lap away. Coleman won, with Aherns five lengths away. Alex Fox Cup, open handicap, 7 laps. —C. E. Lowe (24 —), 35 secs, 1; J. McGee (34 Ariel), 15 secs, 2; R. Stylos (34 Douglas), 30 secs, 3. Time, 7 min. 24 3-5 sees. Winner came easily first, with 100 yards between himself aud second, a similar distance separating second and third men. Fuszard Open Handicap, 7 laps.—C. A. Wilkinson (34 Harley), 20 secs, 1; 11. Vinall (24 Velocette), 30 secs, 2; J. Hamilton (34 Norton), 20 secs, 3. Time, 7 min. 25 secs. A comfortable win for Wilkinson by 60 yards, with the third man three-quarters of a lap away. Napier M.R.C. Open Handicap, 6 laps. —N. Zemanek (34 Ariel), 30 secs, 1; R. Ranby (34 Douglas), scr., 2; H. Mangham (24 Velocette), 10 secs, 3. An uninteresting event, the winner’s handicap giving him a margin which 'Scratch men could not overcome. Cansilation Handicap, 5 laps. — H. Mangham (24 Harley), ser., 1; E. Whittle (34 Norton) 15 sees. 2; R. Vinaii (24 Velocette), 15 secs, 3.
