HARBOUR BOARD OFFICERS
RETIREMENT ON SUPERANNUATION. CASES TO BE CONSIDERED ON THEIR MERITS. “The board will decide the matter from time to time and will decide each case on its merits,” said the chairman (Mr T. M. Geddis) at yesterday’s meeting of the Napier Harbour Board when a letter was read from the Port Ahu. riri Ratepayers’ Association inquiring if members of the staff were being retired on superannuation when their time came round. Mr A. E. Jull, M.P., said that when the question was raised recently of an official of the board being retired on superannuation, it was suggested that his services be retained as the hoard proposed embarking on a policy of con. struction, and this man, who had special qualifications, would be of value. As that policy of construction was not being proceeded with. Mr Jul] thought that the board should review the case. The chairman said that the board was proceeding with the policy referred to by Mr Jull, and the matter was now in the hands of the Loans Board. “Are you sure, Mr Jull, that the question of superannuation that you spoke of is the one that the Port Ratepayers are referring to?” asked Mr P. F. Higgins. “I could not say,” said Mr Jull. A motion moved by the chairman, stating every case would he considered on its merits, was then carried.
