TWYFORD TOPICS
(Own Correspondent.) At the week-end the polo ground was the scene of some good games, the popularity of which can be judged by the fact that there were three games in progress at the same time. Though the wicket is somewhat fiery at times, the batting and bowling performances at these week-end cricket matches are often very creditable. The Picnickers beat Albion, and Flaxmere beat M. Graham’s Grand XI by a comfortable margin of 43 runs. The National Service proved too strong for the Twyford team, which was beaten by 97 runs. The outstanding performances of the day were a splendid innings of 87 by Monty Graham, in which sixes followed one another in quick succession. For National Service Mclvor made a forceful 44, whilst several reached double figures for Flaxmere, E. Craven 32, J. Booth 25, W. Baird 28, and H. Lowe 17 being the most successful. Les Henry for National Service took seven wickets for 16 runs, other bowlers getting good figures being Knipe (Twyford) four for 20; Campbell (Flaxmere), seven for 36. The Flaxmere Club is playing Westshore, and Twyford meets the Picnickers, both of which matches take place next week-end at the Polo Ground. For some time the threshing mill has been busy with the numerous stacks of grass seed in the district. In more than one case the yield has turned out lighter than anticipated, due either to late cutting or loss of seed in other ways. The quality of the sample in most cases is excellent.
At the Autumn Show next week there will be at least two of the dTwyfor School Calf Competition calves exhibited. Keen interest in the result is being felt. The monthly meeting of the Twyford School Committee was held last Tuesday, Messrs A. Johnson (chairman), T. Mitchell, A. J. Masters, L. Masters, and the head teacher (C. Arthur) being present. During the meeting attention was drawn to the good service being given by the school dental clinic at Hastings, all of the parents concerned being more than satisfied with the work of the dental nurses, under whose capable and tactful treatment the kiddies found a visit to the dentist robbed of many of its proverbial horrors.
