KING’S PRIZE
TRENTHAM RIFLE MEETING THE CANTERBURY MATCH. C. J. NIX COLLECTS £7. By Telegraph—Press Association - Tr*ntliam, March 9. The annual matches for the King n Prize were advanced a further stage at the meeting of the National Rifle Association at Trentham this morning. When the marksmen assembled at the squadding posts for the day’s shooting rain was falling, but as the morning advanced the weather took a turn for the better. The light was good, but a slight frontal wind upset the calculations of many. The second match of the Championship Belt series, the Canterbury Match, ten rounds at 300 yards, was completed during the morning. In this match th e early squads did well, C. J. Nix (Featherston) scoring the possible, for which he collected first prize of £L R. H. Nicholl (Petone), last year’s Belt winner, who won yesterday’s opening match in the series, finished up with 49 to collect second prize of £5. Tbn <■ other marksmen —T. H. Boon (Karin i i, R. Thomasen (Tararua), and E. H. King (Wanganui)—also only dropped a point. On the count back Boon and Thomasen tied for third place, taking £3 10s each. Prize money for fifth place went to King.
The 500 yards shoot of the two-range Canterbury Match was completed by lunch time, several possibles being registered.
