BETTER TONE
LONDON FINANCIAL MARKETS. MORE FAVOURABLE VIEW OF U.S. SITUATION. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 9, 12.30 p.m.) Rugby, March 8. A better tone was revealed on London financial markets when the Stock Exchange opened. There was a decided improvement in sentiment, operators taking a more favourable view of the United States situation. More interest was shown in South African mining shares, which showed a small general advance. GOLD INFLOW. The purchase of gold amounting to £3,282,639, which was announced by the Bank of England, has raised the total inflow of gold into England since the beginning of the year to £4,1.17,991. Dealings on foreign exchange in the meantime have again been permitted in all currencies with the exception of the dollar.
On the Stock Exchange British funds gained l-Bth to 9-16th; War Loan is at 98}.
