READY TO FIGHT
CHINESE DETERMINATION COUNTER-OFFENSIVE PLANNED ATTEMPT TO REGAIN JEHOL. By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. (Received 9, 11.30 a.m.) Shanghai, March 8. Chiang Kai-shek has announced definitely that he is prepared to fight and personally lead his troops in a counteroffensive in Jehol. Newspapers are bitterly criticising Dr. Soong, alleging that he is largely responsible for the failure of the Chinese, as he has been holding the purse-strings and grabbing revenue without equipping the armies.
The report that is current of the assassination of Tang Yu-lin is regarded as highly probable as a result of the public clamour for the death of the betrayer of Jehol.
A Kobe message states that the capture of towns in the mountainous region in the West by the Japanese is proving difficult despite a severe aerial bombardment. The Hattori detachment hitherto protecting the Wall has departed to participate in the final stages of the campaign.
