DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. COMPETITION SHOOTS. From Our Own Correspondent. Shoots by the Takapau Defence Club on tho Brookwood range resulted as under: — FIRST ROUND LOWE’S CUP.

The following club members are competing in the national shooting competitiou which is being held at Trentham:—R. Ellis, W. Ellis, I). Waldin and R. Thomsen. Besides firing in the matches they will compete in the teams shoots. WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of-the Takapau branch of the Hawke’s Bay War Relief Association was held in the Public Library. Mr W. Cuthbertson, in the absence of the chairman, Mr E. F. Stubbs, presided. Applications before the meeting were considered in committee and recommendations to suit individual requirements were made to be sent to the Hawke’s Bay executive. In spite of adverse circumstances it was reported that loan repayments were being well maintained and kept up to date. Several small gtrants fur temporary

assistance during the month were confirmed. It was noted that there were fewer men on the road in February than there had been for months past. LADIES’ GOLF. The annual meeting of the lady players of the Takapau Golf Club was held in the golf house, there being a good attendance of players. The report fcr the year of a very satisfactory nature was read and adopted. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mrs E. R. White; vice-president, Mrs H. W. White; captain, Mrs J. B. A'Deane; hon. secretary, Mrs T. G. Prescott; general committee, Mesdames W. Hobson, Poulton, J. Holden, P. J. Sanders, 0. 0. Callender and W. G. Hodges. Becommendations for improvements in club competitions during the forthcoming season were discussed.
