WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

OHURAKUBA-TE POHUE BRANCH The Ohuraltura-Te Pohue Institute held its monthly meeting at Ohurakura on Friday last, Mrs B. Ziegler presiding over some 20 members. The meeting opened with the Institute song. The roll-call, “Uses of a Newspaper,’’ was answered by all. It wus decided to inflict a fine of Id on all members not answering roll-calls. A demonstration given by Mrs A. Atkins on dyeing and curing sheep skins was very interesting and much appreciated. A short talk was given by the vicepresident, Mrs H. Brooks, on “Our Trip to Bissington to Miss Spencer’s Farewell on February 23.’’ This was for the benefit of members unable to go to Rissington. The competition for the best homemade chair or stool was a surprise to all, some very novel and good exhibits being brought. Mrs A. Atkins gained first prize and Mrs H. Brooks second for the chair, and Mrs B. Ziegler first and Miss N. Pothan second for the stool A ten-minute competition on making a paper hat from a newspaper brought forth many “Parisian’’ models. Mrs G. Mcßobbie was first with Mrs T. King and Mrs K. Mcßae tieing for second place. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Mcßae, Mcßobbie, Eaton and Misses Julian, Pothan and Howell, who dispensed a very dainty afternoon tea. After a very enjoyable two hours the meeting closed with the singing of tho National Anthem.
