ST. MATTHEW’S GUILD OF FELLOWSHIP
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the 'Women’s Guild of Fellowship was held in St. Matthew’s Schoolroom, Hastings, on Tuesday afternoon, there being a large attendance of members. The Vicar, Canon C. Mortimer-Jones, was in the chair. The balance-sheet was read and adopted, after which an election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs Mortimer. J ones; secretary, Mrs Burnett; vice-presidents, Mrs Tosswill and Mrs de Lisle; committee, Deaconess Holmes, Mesdames Wilson, Stubbs, Fowlds, Giorgi, Waterworth and Hall. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring honorary secretary, Mrs Hall. Canon Mortimer-Jones, in thanking Mrs Hall, said that a great deal of the success and sociability of the Guild was due to Mrs Hall, who had been most helpful and energetic. The Guild’s weekly meetings commence on March 21. The following is the annual report In presenting the annual report for 1932-33, the members are to be congratulated on the interest they have shown in the Guild. The country is passing through a trying and stressful period, which accounts for the reduction in the receipts in our annual sale of work.
Members will be pleased to know, however, that notwithstanding a shortage in our income, we are in a slightly better position than at the commencement of the year. Our credit balance is now £2l 10/4, as compared with ±l2O 5/6 last year. The amount taken at the sale of work in November was £45 2/1, which amount is not shown m the statement, as it was handed over to the Vestry. In addition to this, the sum of £ll 2/- was taken at a successful social afternoon when the work stall was opened. This amount was retained by the Guild, and is deposited in the Post Office.
The meetings were a social success, and the Guild continues to do a splendid service in the Parish. Early in the year quilts were made for the Relief Committee; two afternoons wei e spent making kneelers for the Church; on another occasion bandages were made for the Southern Cross Mission Ship. On July 26, Miss Taylor, of the Bible Society, gave an interesting address. .
The Rev. Devoi! visited us on August 16, and addressed us, giving a fine talk on Melanesia. During the year we lost valued members in Mrs Speight and Mrs Sharkey. The work accomplished during the past twelve mouths shows clearly that the Guild is a useful band of workers, and this should spur them on further efforts for this year. Votes of thanks are due to all those who have worked so hard for us. and to the Vicar for presiding at, our meetings.
