THEATRE AND SUPPER PARTY

A FAMILY RE-UNION. On the eve of departure for South Africa a delightful theatre and supper party was given by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brathwaite, of Johannesburg, to the members of their family they have come so far to visit. After enjoying the performance of Dame Sybil Thorndike in “Madame Plays Nap” the party went on to the Carlton Club Hotel, where the management had provided an excellent supper. The speeches which followed showed plainly the joy and pleasure of the reunion. Frank is the fifth son of Mr. Robert Brathwaite, so well known and loved in this town, and the occasion must have meant much to Mr. and Mrs. Brathwaite senior, for the pride expressed by their sons and daughters in the parents was manifest to all. In an extremely happy speech the host, standing beside his wife, proposed the health of his parents and spoke with warmest appreciation and admiration of the family’s upbringing - —he looked back with pride to the fact that it was nearly 60 years since “the good work began” and he thought this party of seventeen was convincing proof that the memory of these years had .brought them all together again, still a united and devoted family. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brathwaite left for Auckland via Taupo—a party of seven accompanying them, to wish them bon voyage and all future prosperity.
