HASTINGS COURT
(Before Mr A. M. Mowlem. S.M.) TO-DAY’S PROCEEDINGS. Basil Victor Gerbes was charged with, on December 12 last, at Elsthorpe, stealing four postal notes valued at £3 10/-, the property of J. H. Murray. Ths accused, who was 17 years of age, had pleaded guilty when the case was called last week, and His Worship held over his judgment until receiving the Probation Officer's report. His Worship said that the Probation Officer reported that the accused was a tit person to admit to probation and he intended to give the accused the chance. He was admitted to probation for a period of two years and ordered to make restitution of the amount stolen. Bryan Douglas Armstrong was charged with driving a motor car with insufficient headlights attached thereto. Constable Alexander said that the defendant had stated that he came from Dannevirko and one of his lights had blown out on route. His Worship; Do you doubt the truth of that? Witness; No, sir. "Well, then, the defendant is ordered to pay 12/- Court costs,’’ said His Worship. BOROUGH PROSECUTIONS. On the information of the Borough Traffic Inspector (Mr A. C. Crawford) a Maori, Haraemoana, was charged with driving a motor car m Kararnu road on January 28 at a speed that might have been dangerous to the public. The inspector said that the defendant speeded up and passed a car at an intersection. He was fined £1 with 17/- costs. Fred Bell and Edward Hewetson were each fined 10/- with 10/- costs lor cycling at night without a light. Abraham Otene was similarly charged by the traffic inspector (Mr A. C. Crawford) and ordered to pay 17/costs. Charles N. Moore was fined 10/- with 10/- costs for riding a motor cycle at night without a light. Ou the information of Traffic Inspector A. C. Crawford, a charge of driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s license was made against Donald Molnnes. He was fined 10/with 10/- costs. CIVIL CASES. Co., Ltd. v. S. S. Parks, costs only 13/-; Gordon Walker Ltd. v. R. C. Reid 13/6, costs 8/-; Hastings Bakery v. J. Scott £5 19/8, costs £1 10/6; H.B. Tyre Repairing Co. v. J. Weymouth £5 18/6, costs £1 10/6; A. S. Tonkin v. Gibson Oldham £3 13/6. costs £1 3/6; same v. R. A. Long-Taylor £7 6/5, costs £1 10/6. Judgment summons: Miki Thomas was ordered to pay J. H. Rashleigh £lO 8/5 within one month, in default 10 days’ imprisonment.
