LOTTERY EVERY WEEK

TICKET RUSH IN SYDNEY. PATIENT. LONG QUEUES. “One of the moat amazing sights in Sydney is the daily rush for State lottery tickets,” said Mr Walter Fuller, who has returned from a two months’ visit to Australia. “All day long there is a huge queue of people outside the office waiting patiently for their turn to get inside and purchase their tickets. There must be nearly a hundred girls inside the premises selling tickets as hard as they can lick. It is really a wonderful and surprising sight. “There is a State lottery every week,” continued Mr Fuller. “That is to say, every week there is a lottery with £5OOO, £lOOO. £5OO and £3OO as the top prizes, with dozens of other smaller prizes. The price of the tickets is 5/3 each, 3/- of which goes to the payment of expenses and the hospital funds, while the remainder makes up the prize money. There is never a doubt about a sweep filling. They all fill and more than fill. The drawing takes place at 9 a.m. every Friday in His Majesty’s Theatre and is quite open to the public—all is fair and above board. “In view of the great amount of New Zealand money that is being sent across to Australia each week it is difficult to understand why our own Government docs not institute something of the kind,” Mr Fuller added.
