WAIPAWA

(Own Correspondent). Mr. Chas. Rose, who was a patient in the hospital at Waipukurau for some time, has made a good recovery and is now able to return home. The monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held last evening in the borough room, Mr. A’Deane presiding over a fair attendance. Correspondence from the Associated' Chambers of Commerce was read and discussed. It was decided to write to the stationmaster in regard to delivery of goods and parcels by the railway, :Ao to ask the Associated Chambers of Commerce to approach the Post and Telegraph Department for a reduction in the rate of telephones. After a general discussion by the members the meeting closed.

A sufficient profit to purchase two new uniforms will probably result from the annual ball of the Municipal Band, held on Friday night. The attendance was well up to expectations, visitors being present in large numbers from Waipukurau, Otane, and other parts of the district. The programme included a number of old-time dances. The supper was an outstanding feature of the evening. To Mrs L. H. McHardy and Miss Gideon thanks are duo for the tasty decoration of the supper tables, and to Mr Mason for assistance in collecting the contributions. A very satisfying programme was presented at the fortnightly korero of the Savage Club, the committee in charge of the programme being Sav ages Wood and Strang. A number of instrumental selections were rendered by Savages W. Rust, R. Rust, and R. Wedde. Songs were contributed by Savages Barker. Dyson, and Walker, mid talks by Savages Holt, Fraser, Wedde and Walker. An amusing sketch was staged by Savages Rawlings, Woods, Dwight and Wedde. Savage Critchley led the hapu in a hearty community sing. Future koreros are to bo held on Monday evening to suit members of the orchestra, aud the programme for June 13 is in the hands of Savages Harker and Hill For the succeeding korero, on June 27, Savages Adeane and Critchley are organising :i Gilbert ami Sullivan night, the programme to consisl entirely of cleetirins

presidents, Mesdames Pellow, Grenside, and Dyson; secretary, Mrs S. Bott; treasurer, Miss A. Bibby; organists, Mrs Barker and Miss A. Bibby. Votes of thanks were accorded the retiring officers. Mrs S. A. Dailey provided a dainty afternoon tea. Mr T. Mawson, “Te Manuiri, ” reports that a very wet month was experienced at his station in May, a total of 7.03 in. falling in 13 days. The record was as under: —Ist 3.05 in., 2nd .62in., 4th ,09in., 11th .13in., 12th 1.35 in., 14th ,34iu., 15th .19in., 16th .24in., 18th ,03in., 22nd .44in., 23rd .34in., 24th .Oain., 29th ,19in. The rainfall registered at Waipawa by Mr W. H. Bibby’s station at Blackburn 4.64 in. of rain was registered in May, rain falling on 13 days, as under:—lst 1.22 in., 2nd .22in., 9th .02in., 11th .19in., 12th 1.89 in., 14th ,04in., 18th .02in., 22nd .33in., 23rd .08 in., 24th ,13in., 25th .21in., 28th .08in., 29th .21in.
