The secret of why Earl Beatty wore his cap on the tilt is revealed by Lieutenant Commander Geoffrey in the course of his “Life of Earl Beatty.” He says that Earl Beatty’s habit is due to peculiar cranial conformation. which makes it impossible for him to wear his cap on the level. His cap used to cause him severe headaches until he finally adopted his famous tilt.
