BOXING

HAY V. BROADFOOT.

THURSDAY NIGHT’S CONTEST.

In the forthcoming match on Thursday night Jimmie Broadfoot will defend his title of light-heavy-weight champion against Artie Hay, of Hastings. It is expected that Broadfoot will arrive in Hastings on Wednesday. Jim has a reputation as a hard hitter, and when he gets warmed up to the job he makes the pace a hot one. As a professional he has had some twenty hours, and as an amateur he has fought sixty fights. Among his victories are numbered two wins against Nelson McKnight, two verdicts against N. Y’oung, a draw with Harry Casey, and a knockout in two rounds in a mix-up with Bruce Mack. He has been defeated by Lachie MacDonald, .Eddie Parker and Artie Hay, but since -then he has undoubtedly shown great improvement, and boxing circles in Auckland are confident that he will retain its title.

Artie Hay’s record is well known in Hastings, and a splendid bout is forecast.

The main event will be preceded by three curtain-raisers in tho amateur class, and these should prove of more than ordinary interest.

Buses will cat for Napier patrons before and after the contest, and seats are obtainable at Donovan’s. These have been reduced for tho occasion, and it is to be hoped that joxing fans will take full advantage of this and support, the Association as they did in the Hay-Morgan bout.
