NAPIER CLUB MEETING.
MATTERS OF MOMENT DIS- . CUSSED. A special meeting of the Napier Sailing Club was held last night at Westshore for the purpose of discussing matters which might be conducive to the general improvement of the club. Mr. H. Vanderspeck presided. Mr. A. E .O’Meara, Hastings, was elected a member.
It was pointed out by Mr. N. Gillies that although good trophies were offered in the Z and third classes, races in these classes there at a standstill. If the age limit had anything to do with this the best plan would be to lift it. The chairman stated that as far as he was able to see the third class had been very consistent. The best way to overcome this difficulty was for the senior members to take boys out and train them on the condition that they would undertake to sail the smaller boats upon becoming more competent. It was shown by the secretarv. Mr. W. Anderson, that with the season already drawing to a ciose there were still several trophies to be competed for in the Z class. The inconsistency qf this class indicated that the heats in the competitions would! not be finished. With the courses set for these trophies, it would scarcely be satisfactory to have them competed for in one heat.
A suggestion that if the Z class owners were not willing to compete for these trophies they could be reserved for ladies was made. It was explained that the sole objection was against the necessity of settling the competitions in one heat. The next subject for discussion was dances. It was suggested that the club should hold the first dance, and that the various boat-owners and crews should follow. This was opposed on the grounds that there would lie unity in the dull first, and that this would bo followed by a breaking-up into groups! It was suggested that the boat-owners and crews should hold their dances first and that the club dance be held later. To support this suggestion the crew of the Veronique stated that they were willing to hold a dance first, and the date for this was ultimately settled as March 15. A discussion about the Old Timers’ face next took place. The dnte for this was set for Saturday week, and the manrfgement of the event was placed in the hands of Mr. N. Gillies during the absence of Mr. Neville Houston, the club’s vice commodore.
