BOXING
REPLY TO DUNEDIN COMPLAINT CHAIRMAN UNDER MISAPPREHENSION. [Per Preus Association.]
Wellington, March 5. When the complaint made by the chairman of the Otago Boxing Association was brought under the notice of the chairman of the New Zealand Boxing Council (Dr. P. F. McEvedy), ho stated that the Otago official was under a complete misapprehension concerning the position. “Neither Wellington nor any other town has a hand in electing the members of the Boxing Council,” said Dr. McEvedy. “The council is elected at tlie annual conference of delegates of the associations affiliated to the N.Z. Boxing Assqciation, which also lays down the rules and regulations for the control of the sport. The members of the council are not delegates for any association and are thus entirely independent. All we have to do is to carry out the policy laid down by the delegates each year, and we woqjd be very weak-kneed if we did not do so. “The council has bad nothing to do with the limitation of purses. That was fixed at the last annual conference. The delegates at the last annual conference saw fit in their wisdom to centre the Boxing Council in Wellington, and the majority of ths associations.
