WATERSIDERS

POSITION IN NEW ZEALAND.

WAGES INQUIRY URGED.

(Per Press Association.)

Dunedin, November 13

The Dunedin waterside workers passed a resolution protesting against the decision of His Honour Mr Justice Blair while acting in the Arbitration Court in the absence of Mr Justice Frazer, in refusing to grant an increase in wages to the watersiders, and against the action of Mr Justice Blair in not following the principles laid down by Mr Justice Frazer in 1924, in fixing the rates of pay for, the work performed on the waterfront. If this fixation method had been adopted the Court would have been forced to give the increase. In view of the above the union urges the Government to institute a special inquiry into the wages conditions of watersiders throughout New Zealand.
