WAIPUKURAU STOCK SALE

BROKERS’ REPORTS.

The associated auctioneers report having 'held their weekly sale at Waipukurau yesterday when there was a fair yarding of cattle and a small yarding of sheep. There was a distinct decline in the prices offered for fat bullocks, most of which were not sold under the ’hammer, while heavy good quality fat cows and heifers were quitted on a par with last week’s prices. The sheep, which mostly consisted of ewes, were not in keen demand, there being only one line of woolly ewes with S.D. lambs at foot which were sold at 36/9.

Following is a range of prices realised:—Medium weight fat bullocks £l4 10/- to £l5 2/6, heavy prime fat cows £ll- to £l2 8/-, light and unfinished do. £9 8/-, heavy prime fat heifers up to £l3 10/-, light and unfinished fat heifers £7 1/- to £9 2/-, yearling P.A. heifers £5 16/-, 3-yr P.A. steers £9 1/-, 2 and 3-yr Hereford cross heifers £6 3/-. yearling Hereford heifers £7, P.A. cows with calves due and at foot £lO 1/-, woolly ewes with lambs at foot 36/9, heavy fat ewes passed at 18/6, s.m. 4 and 5-yr ewes passed at 19/6. SYDNEY WOOL SALES Sydney, Nov. 12. At the wool sales the market was firm, with good bidding and prices well up to the average of late. Greasy Merino 20}d. A total of 8310 bales were sold. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated 9st. inst.:— Tallow: No auction this week. Market quiet but steady, without material change in value. Mutton, fine 40/- per cwt. fair to good 39/-. Wool: Bradford business more brisk in tops and yarns. Merino and fine crossbred dearer, medium apd coarse crossbred hardening. Present quotations for tops are:—64’s warp 3/3 per lb. average 2/11; 56’s 2/2 to 2/21; 50’s prepared 1/11, 40's prepared 1//8. LAMBING RETURNS. From information furnished by the Inspectors of Stock in the various districts in the North Island, tho average lambing for the current season in that part of tho Dominion is estimated at 87.56 per cent., compared with 84.61 per cent, last vear.

The 1929 annual sheep returns show 8.820,536 breeding ewes, and from these figures the number of lambs this season is estimated at 7.723.523.

Experience has shown that these estimates are usually very close, being, if anything, on the conservative side.

The South Island figures will not be available until next month.
