ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
H.B. BODY MEETS. DESTRUCTION OF DEER. The monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society was held last night, Mr. J. H Edmundson presiding. In reply to the society’s letter concerning the open season for deer and other matters generally in connection with the destruction of such animals the Department of Internal Affairs advised that effect would be given to the recommendations of the society as to the open season with the exception that it was not proposed to insert in the warrant the number of points on a stag’s head. It was advised further that the necessity of furnishing a return of the number of deer culled was intended to apply more fri the culling operations of the ri -iety «nd not to the open season, imd tne department desired to know whether Tie society had done any culling this year and, if so, the number of deer destroyed. It was stated by Mr. Pickard that unless there was more culling done the Government would not give the society a close season. Mr. Edmundson: There is. of course, a certain amount of illicit culling going on. It was finally left in the hands of
Mr. Pickard'to furnish the necessary return. It was decided to renew the bounty on hawks' beaks until the end of the year, the amount being fixed at 1/-. The financial statement showed that there was a credit balance of £74 12>1.
