MINING TROUBLES
ON THE NEWCASTLE FIELDS. (United Press Association—By Cable* Copyright.) Newcastle, Nov 11. The general president of the Engine Drivers’ and Firemen’s Associa. tion, Mr. Gibson, addressing 8000 miners, said that the coal conference must fail and that the miners’ only hope of victory lay in a general strike. More than half the audiencg was definitely hostile ON THE WEST COAST. ALLEGED CONSPIRACY. (Per Press Association.) / Greymouth, November 11. Twenty-two men and three women were charged in the Court with alleged conspiracy in connection with the Blackball mine dispute and demonstrating by the house of Janies livings, engine-driver at the mine. The police gave evidence that on Wednesday evening last a crowd of 250 assembled by tho house, yelling, hooting and banging kerosene tins, and singing ‘‘We’ll hang James Levines on a sour apple tree. ’ Levines was due to go on shift at 10 p.m., and it was apparent that the demonstration was for the purpose of preventing him working. The hearing i s proceeding.
