A Melbourne cable reports the death of Mr. H. C. Harrison, the father of football in Australia and originator of the Australian game. He played in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and West Australia. Ha was 93 years of age.

Mesrs. E. J. R. Milne and J. P. Boyle (representing tho Hawke’s Bay Fruitgrowers) and Mr. N. J. Adamson (orchard instructor) left Hastings this morning to attend a fruit export conference to be held in Wellington tomorrow.

The death occmlred on Saturday afternoon of Mrs. 8. H. Palmer Jones, wife of the manager of the “Wanganui Herald,” after a lengthy illness. Deceased was widely known and respected in Wanganui, and took an active part in various organisations, including tho Plunket Society and Victoria League.

The funeral of Mr William Godbcr took place yesterday, when a representative gathering of citizens followed. in tho procession to the Hastings Cemetery. Members of the Hastings Borough Council staff acted as pall bearers, and Pastor J. Sterling, of Napier, conducted Seventh Day Adventist burial service prior to the interment. Subsequently, many bcautr ful wreaths were laid on the grave, including one from the Mayor and Council of Hastings.

Commandant Emily Feltham, and Adjutant .Janet Lamberton, of tho Salvation Army, are leaving Hastings by tho mail train to-morrow morning on route for Melbourne, where they propose to stay for a time. Both ladies have laboured together in Salvation Army service for over 30 years, during which they have had charge of various important stations, including Perth, Sydney nnd Melbourne. After years of faithful service they have been retired. They expect, to be absent for about a year.
