WAIPUKURAU
(Special Representative.) AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB FORMED. With a view to forming an Amateur Athletic Club in Waipukurau, a meeting (convened by Messrs P. R. Smyrk. R. P. Wilder. C. S. Stowe, and A. W. Parsons) was held 'last night. There was a large attendance, including a number of ladies. Mr Wilder was elected as chairman of the meeting and Mr Smyrk secretary pro tern. The chairman outlined the object of the meeting. He emphasised the necessity for members being prepared to work. In his opinion there exists an opportunity for linking up vtth the Waipukurau A. and P. Association, in adding to the attractiveness of the annual show, which hitherto has lacked enthusiastic support locally. He moved that an Amateur Athletic Club be formed, to affiliate with the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. This was seconded by Mr Stowe and carried. Four representatives of the Waipawa Club attended (Messrs W. Cade. R. Croudis S. A. Dailey, and R. Petherick). Mr Cade, secretary, explained the necessary course of procedure. He expressed special pleasure as to the decision to form a Waipukurau Club. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follow:— Patron, Sir Geo. Hunter, M.P.; patronees, Lady Hunter; president, Dr. C. Raymond; vice-presidents, Messrs R. McLean. B. J. Atkins. A. W. Parsons, Wm. Hall P. F. Wall, H. Butler, and E. Limbrick; joint secretaries and treasurers. Messrs P. R. Smyrk and L. Maloney; committee. Messrs G. Black, Parker. W. L. Lawrence, Nicol, W. Adams, B. Nickal'ls, B. L. Wallis. Stowe. R. P. Wilder. J. Reidy, L. R. Cutforth. R. W. Glentworth, E. A. Goodger, and T. Southall; hon. auditor. Mr F. A. G. Dunn ; delegate to Napier Centre, left to the committee. It was resolved that the committee be recommended to hold a sports meeting at an early date. The membership fee was fixed at os (ladies 2s 6d). With a vote of thanks to the Waipawa visitors and the chairman, the meeting closed. The first donation was that of £1 from Mr Wilder. The committee met subsequent to the genera] meeting, when it was decided that the title be the “Waipukurau Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club.” WALLINGFORD SPORTS. The leading horse event at the Wallingford sports on Saturday will be the hunters’ style jumping, for which the first prize is £25. Another notable feature is the steeplechase style jumping, this being endowed with £l5 as the first prize. Proportionately liberal second and third prize awards are provided, and admirers of horseflesh will see upwards of 30 animals in the jumping arena. TAKAPAU. RIFLE CLUB. (Own Correspondent). The Takapau Rifle Club fired on the Brookwood range on Saturday in the second round Cameron Belt, third round Rose Bowl and third round Junior Cup, when scores were as under:—.
