PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE
ANNUAL REPORT PRESENTED WORK COMMENDED. Wellington. September 27. The report of the Public Trust Office was laid on the. .table of the House of Representatives to-diiv. Mr Forbes commended the work or the office, saying that objections io the office, ’which were rampant a few years ago, had died down and the office wag evidentlv now giving every satisfaction.
Mr Lysnar said the Dominion was backing this office with its guarantee for the faithful administration of estates, but for that guarantee rhe State received no consideration out ot the estates administered, and he thought the time had come when the State should receive some consideration.
Mr Wilford said lie had heard a good many complaints during the past two years about the Public Trust Office, but he was bound to sav that on investigation he had not. found that one of these complaints had been justified. The Public Trust was fortunate in its officers. If rhe Public Trust Office lost the confi deuce of the people of New Zealand it would be a most serious disaster Mr Nash commended the work of the office in the matter n f loans to local bodies, in which it had achieved great success. Mr Howard said it was satisfactory to hear such all-round praise of one of the State’s Socialistic activities. Th Hon. G. J. Anderson, in reply. said the. founder of the Public Trust Office could scarcely have been called a Socialist. He was the very antithesis of that. He felt sure if the Prime Minister who was in charge of the department, had been present he would have been gratified to hear the general approbation of the office expressed' from all sides of the House.
