FIRES.
NEWSPAPER OFFICE BURNT.
VALUABLE PLANT WRECKED.
Te Awamutu, August 31. Shortly after one o’clock this morning, fire was discovered in the “Waipa Post” Printing and Publishing Company’s workroom. The news room was completely demolished, leaving only a shell of the building before the fire brigade quelled the outbreak. The fir e must have had a good hold before discovery. Two lintoype machines, a big Miehle press, two folding machines, and other equipment of a well-appointed newspaper works, were completely ruined, while one of the editorial rooms, housing a large quantity of records, was also burnt out. The commercial office and jobbing depart ment were not much damaged. The insurances are: Building £lBOO. in the Norwich Union; plant. £3500, and stock. £‘soo. both in ths National
The origin of the fire is a mystery. No fires were on the premises, ami the night staff left the premises at 10.30, when everything wa B apparently all right.
