THUNDER STORM
AUCKLAND AND SUBURBS STARTLED
TERRIFYING EXPERIENCES.
Auckland. August 31
The thunder and lightning storm which passed over the citv and suburbs at 5.30 last evening was of a terrifying nature, especially in the Mount Eden and Edendale districts. One Mount Eden family was startled bv what appeared to be a flash ol blue flame passing through the house Lightning struck a wireless areial tn the Pah road, and ran into the livingroom, causing consternation at the tea table. One man said the flash seemed to be followed bv flying sparks. It apparently struck the ground in the Wairiki road bv the cloud of blue smoke appearing to rise Tn several houses electrical fittings were damaged. The windows of several dwellings were broken, and telephones were put out of use. A blue flame seemed to run through one house where a chair, on which a girl was sitting, was marked. ROTORUA HIT Rotorua, August 31. A cyclonic storm of unusual severiv hit Rotorua last night. Tivo nnd a-half inches of rain fell, but no serious damage was recorded.
