The first tournament of the Maori Hockey Association takes place at Omahu on Wednesday at 11 o’clock. A dance will follow in the evening.

The fancy dress ball of the Hastings Centra! School will be held in the Assemblly Hall to-morrow evening.

Th© Hastings Central School will hold its plain and fancy dress ball for children in the Assembly Hall to-morrow evening. The ball for adults will be held at the same place on Thursday, and both entertainments are advertised in this issue.

Fanners and the general public are reminded of Mr H. C. Cullen’s sale on Thursday next. The herd has been well culled, and only the best stock has been kept. Increasing public support comp’els Baird’s, leading drapers and mercers, to enlarge their premises by taking in the new shop iust completed next door to the old one. The men’s and boys' clothing and mercery will be transferred to this shop, which will have its own separate entrance, although there will be a right-of-wav through to the other departments. This great clearance commences on i hursdav morning at 9 o’clock, and will give further point to Baird’s esstablisbed lead for bargain giving.
