A Dangerous Line
MENACE TO LIFE AN2) PROPERTY. COUNCIL PROTESTS AGAINST POWER BOARD’S ACTION. At last night’s meeting of the Hastings Borough Council a letter was received from the Electric Power Boar.! advising that they hud erected a tie line along Pakowhai road, from Boundary road to Well road, within the borough area. The Board would meet the Council in the direction of carrying its existing lines on the Board’s poles. The Mayor said that the Board might at least have asked permission before erecting such a line within the borough’s licensed area. Pakowhai road was a main thoroughfare, and the engineer had reported that the line which hd been erected would be dangerous. Furthermore, all trees within a chain of the lino would have to be cut down, and there were some fine trees along that route.
NATURE OF THE LINE. The line was a main transmission line to Paki Paki and not a service line so the Board could not serve people within the borough from it. He had written to the Board asking under what authority tho lino had been erected. It was of course the desire, of tho Council to help the Board in every way possible. The Mayor’s action in writing to the Board was confirmed.
