SWEPT BY TIDAL WAVE.
NORTH PACIFIC ISLAND DEVASTATED. San Francisco, Dec. 24. A report that Yap, a small island in tho Caroline group, in the North Pacific, was swept by a tidal wave a devastated, is published in the “Hochi Sha,” a Japanese language newspaper of Honolulu. No confirmation of the report has been received from any other source. The cable between Guam and Yap has been interrupted since December 16. The ‘ ‘ Hochi Sha ’ ’ said that not a single house, on the island, which ha* an area of 79 square miles and a population of several thousands, is left standing. Fear is expressed that othei islands in the group suffeied a similar catastrophe-.—( Reul er).
