WAIPUKURAU.

(Own Correspondent.) A large congregation assembled in the Municipal Theatre last night, when a special Christinas service was held under the auspices of St. Andrew’s Church. The Rev R. Ferguson Fish preached a sermon both forceful and eloquent, taking for his suject “The Challenge of a Child—Jesus Christ.’’ Mr J. U. Whitehead played the organ solo numbers, and Miss King the accompaniments for the choir, conducted I y Mr Whitehead. Vocal solos rendered by Messrs J. L. Lunt and E. Haldane, while Misses Jones and Warren sang a duet. Anthem were contributed by St. Andrew's choir, and Air Whitehead was responsible for a sacred organ recital. On Saturday afternoon the Waipttkurau Old Boys’ team, captained by Guy, played Otane on the Waipukurau ground (Russell Park). The home side scored 105 to the visitors’ total of 96. A Waipukurau eleven, skipped by Bur kinshaw, vice-captain, journeyed to To Auto and met the Pukehou representatives. Old Boys scored 76 in their first essay, and 49 for 3 wickets in the second innings. Pukehou compiled a total of 30 in the first innings, and 72 in the second. The visitors therefore won by 7 wickets and 23 runs.
