HAVELOCK NORTH

DISTRICT SCHOOL. At the breaking-up ceremony of the Havelock North District School yesterday, Mr. Macken was presented with a set of pipes by the school children as a farewell gift in connection with his departure from Havelock. The presentation was made by Master Miller. In responding, Mr. Macken stresseo the point that ally success gained by him in school work was chiefly due to the great assistance given him by Mr. Sefton. He would always look back on Havelock with happy memories of the good times spent in school and sports. BOY. SCOUTS. At last night’s meeting of the Havelock North Boy Scouts’ Committee arrangements were made for a troop of 20 Scouts to go into camp at Rissington for a fortnight commencing on January 9. The boys will, on present arangements, parade in the Havelock North square at 8 a.m. on January 9, on which morning the Dunedin Jamboree troop will also parade, prior ,to embarking for their southern trip. The lussington troop will be under the control of Mr. T. A. Sladdin (senr.) and Mr. Cooksey, a settler at Rissington, who has had considerable experience as a .scoutmaster. The boys will “sendoff” their Dunedin representatives and then set off immediately in private cars for their own camping grounds. Complete arrangements are being made lor the boys and the settlers of the Rissington district will help where possible to make the boys’ holiday profitable and enjoyable. Arrangements are now complete lor the Dunedin trip and the boys are training steadily lor the swimming and athletic carnivals that arc to form part of the big Jamboree.
