SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. (Own correspondent.) The usual school committee meeting was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs Taylor (chairman). McKenzie, McKeesick. Brittain and M,r. Goldfinch, who was appointed secretary. A letter was read from th© Hawke’s Bay Education Board, appointing Mrs L. Aiken relieving teacher during Miss Mackie’s absence on sick leave. Th© matter of giving the children an ’Xmas tree and picnic as in previous years, was fully discussed, and it was decided to hold both as usual and also a sports programme on picnic day if sufficient -funds were available. The final arrangements and locality for picnic grounds were held over until next meeting. GENERAL. The young people are holding a windup dance in the schoolroom on Friday November 14, in aid of school funds. Mr. Phil Walden has been engaged for the evening. The floor will receive special attention, and an enjoyable evening should eventuate. The many friends of Mr s Forbes will be plea sell to hear she is now convalescent after her serious illness. Miss Mackie, infant mistress, who has been seriously indisposed, is much improved, and will shortly return to her duties, when her pupils and many friends will be pleased to welcome her home again. Mr. A. Brittin has been very successful this season with his homing pigeons, taking many prizes. In the open flock race from Wellington on Saturday last his bird “S.O-S.” was first, “Sunbeam” third, and “Odds” fifth, which was a very good performance considering the very inclement weather experienced. Mr. Brittin is leading on * points for the cup. The local school children have been very successful in the schools’ section at the Royal Show at Palmerston North.
