PARKVALE SCHOOL.

The usual monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Monday night, 3rd. inst., the following members being present:—Mrs LovellSmith, Messrs Simpson (chairman), Glcnny (hon. secretary), Beuth. Cohen. Fawcett. Giorgi, and Stevenson. The headmaster’s report discloseu that the present roll number wa 8 344 and th© average attendance for October was 319. Mr R. Paynter has generouslv made a donation of a set oft cricket material tor the senior team. It was decided to inaugurate a sports fund at the school for the purpose of supplying the necessary material for sports to both boys and girls throughout the year. Each child is to contribute half-yearing a sum of 6d and tho contributions ar© to be subsidised by the committee to the extent of S(J per cent. After hearing the views of the headmaster on the subject, the school show is not to b© held as usual this month, but a function in substitution will be held in February, after the summer • acation. A letter from the Parkvale Progressive Society witli reference to the committee co-operating with them and holding a function for th© common benefit was considered and after discussion it wa 8 decided to reply and intorm th© Society that tho project had the committee’s sympathy and would assist provided the matter be delayed till next February owing to any such function being heid now tending to distract the children who are preparing for the annual examinations. Th© Education Board intimated that the committee’s application for a new class room would be considered at the next meeting of tho Board to be hold this month. It was resolved to accept the Board’s offer of a subsidy up to £lO for purchase of a gramophone and records and to apply for the full amount granted. A list of records to be supplied to the committee for selection of suitable ones. A number of minor matters were considered and dealt with* Messrs Stevenson and Beuth were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
