(Our Own Correspondent.) A very successful garden party was held at the vicarage grounds on Wed- , nesday in support of the candidature of the town queen, Miss Gladys Smith,-i in connection with the queen carnival, I which is being held in December in ; aid of St. Mark’s Church funds. The effort resulted in 2000 votes being recorded for the town queen. Thanks are due to the members of the Mother’s Union and other willing help- i ers far this special effort. The result to date stands: —Country queen. Miss A'. A’Deane. 7300 votes; town queen,; Miss G. Smith, 6100 votes. On Thursday gift stock collected by Mr. N. i Tilley was disposed of at the Takapau 1 saleyards, the proceeds going towards votes for the country queen. ® The Public Trust Office has established an agency in Takapau, with Mr. J. G. May in charge. The annual inspection of the Takapou School was conducted on Thursday and Friday by Mr. L. F. Pegler, acting inspector of schools. Crops are looking well in the district and give promise of a prolific yield. Cattle after a hard winter are ifbw in sleek condition and cream lorries have to cope with large supplied I for their respective factories.
