UNEMPLOYED IN COUNTRY.
LABOUR DEPARTMENT’S EFFORTS. ARRANGEMENT WITH A. AND T.' DEPARTMENT. An arrangement has been made with the Post and Telegraph Department by the Department of Labour by which postmasters in all towns where there is no permanent officer of the Labour Department, will act as employment agents. Any employer desirous of obtaining the services of a workman is now invited to apply at the nearest post office and notify his requirements to the postmaster, who will, if no suit able worker is then available locally, at once communicate with the nearest office of the Department of Labour. Men in need of employment are invited to get in touch, with the nearest postmaster, who will endeavour to find suitable work for the applicants. In cases where a postmaster secures u suitable worker for an employer a small fee will be charged, and the same applies where work is found on the application of a worker, the fees varying .according to the rate of wages. Where the Department of Labour has an officer all applications are to be made to him, and no fee is charged. The Department of Labour hope that the new arrangement will be taken advantage of by both employers and workers.
