NEW SCHOOL BITE.
CONFERENCE IN NAPIER. A SATISFACTORY ARRANGEMENT. New plans of the school site in Napier South and the adjoining sections are to be drawn up by the Napier Harbour Board, consequent on the allegations made recently that the site would be surrounded by backyards and fowlhouses. In order to obtain suggestions regarding the subdivision of the land, the Board called a conference yesterday morning of representatives of the Borough Council, Education Board, and High School Board, when the following resolution was carried: “That no objection be taken to the unformed portion of George’s Drive being closed, but that for the purpose of securing better access to the beach road for heavy traffic, it is desirable that Ellison street should be widened right up to the beach.” ' Th© school site is to be rearranged so as to provide for a frontage to Hastings street South, and the frontages of the sections are to be increased. When the plans are being drawn up, provision is to be made for connection with the borough drainage systemAt a subsequent meeting of the Reserves Committee of the Napier Harbour Board, it was decided to make the following recommendations: — That Ellison street be widened to 150 links. That the minimum width of sections be 44 feet frontage. That a further small reserve be mad© at th© intersection of George’s Drive. That Mr. Rochfort prepare a fresh subdivisional plan, giving the school site a hill frontage to Hastings street extension. That a copy ©f the proposal he forwarded to the Napier Borough Counril. That Mr. Rochrort be asked to consult with the borough engineer in regard to the drainage of the area.
