Visit to Hastings BUSY DAY NEXT WEEK. ARRANGEMENTS FOR DEPUTATIONS. Th© Mayor of Hastings (Mr. G. A. Maddison) and Mr. G. McKay, M.P., have received telegrams from the HonJ. G. Ooates, Minister of Railways, Public Works, and Postmaster-General, saying that, in accordance with the i promise he made to the Mayor during his visit to Wellington some months ago, he had arranged to visit Hastings , next Wednesday. He had intended to 1 spend Tuesday night in Hastings, and , to proceed next day to Napier, but the pressure of his engagements, which included the opening of the Dannevirke Post Office, would make it most inconvenient to spend a night in Hastings, and he asked the Mayor to relieve ’ him of this obligation* to him. He i would arrive in Hastings on Wednesday morning by special train about 10 o’clock, and it would then be possible for him to spend the greater part 1 of th© day there, proceeding to Napier 1 for the evening to meet several deputai tions. He would leave for Wairoa ’ early on Thursday morning. The Mayor is calling a meeting of * representatives of local bodies. Chamber of Commerce. Farmers’ Union, and fruiterrowers for Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock, to draw up a programme of matters that the respective bodies desire to deputationise the Minister about. On the arrival ©f the Minister in Hartings on Wednesdav morning, the nrohnhlA n’-ogramm<’ will be as follows: The Minister will he met hv the member for th© district, the Mayor and the representatives of local bodies.
