NAPIER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

AIONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Napier Chamber of Commerce Committee was held last evening, Air R. W. Waterhouse. presiding. DI STR ICT CONFEREN CES, Regarding the proposal to hold district conferences oi Cnanibers, the Hastings Chamber wrote stating Hint it was wholly m accord with the proposal, but would suggest that the whole of the East Coast from Gisborne to Dunuevirke should be included, and that the conference be held quarterly. 1 In connection with This, the Development Committee recommended that the first conference decide whether Gisborne should be invited. Air Waterhouse said the idea was to make it a provincial affair. Air W. ±'. Griffith moved as an amendment that Gisborne be invited to the first conference. This was seconded by Air K. McLcay, who said that matters of interest to Gisborne might crop up at the first meeting. Air Waterhouse said the other Chambers in Hawke’s Bay should be consulted first. The amendment was carried, and the recommendation of the committee lost. Air j. H. Edmundson: When is the first meeting to take place. The chairman: When replies have been received from all the Chambers. EMPIRE EXHIBITION. Advice was received from the New Zealand secretary of the British Empire Exhibition that every effort would be made to reserve 75 square feet'at the Exhibition for Hawke's Bay. The Dannevirke Chamber wrote (protesting against the view of Dannevirke sent forward for exhibition in the series of photographs at the Empire Exhibiloin. It was decided to leave the matter of securing a good photograph of Dannevirke in ihe hands of Air J. W. Norrie. Regarding the same matter, the Hastings Chamber advised that the matter had been referred to the Joint Publicity Committee set up by the Hastings Borough Council, Progress League, and the Chamber for its favourable consideratoin. IMMIGRATION. Correspondence from The Wellington Chamber regarding immigration was left in the hands of the delegates to the conference of Chambers.
