LICENSES OF COMPANY.
FAILURE TO RENEW. AT CHRISTCHURCH Christchurch, Nov. 14 Three cases of companies failing to apply for a renenwal of their licenses were heard in lhe Magistrate’s Court to-day G. W. Russell, Ltd. (Mr Johnston) were proeeeuCd against bj the Commissioner of Stamps (Air Brown) on the ground that being an incorporated company, it had failed to apply for the renewal of its license. Mr Johnston said that Russell was away in the North Island when the Department sent o.u notices that new licenses were necessary, and when he returned the notice was not given to him, and he was unaware of his obligation to the Dmiartment. He pleaued guilty to the oiience. \ Mr Brown said a number of firms were taking advantage or the leniency of the Stamp Department to delay payment of their license lees, and the pre sent prosecutions were being brought a sa warning to other firms.
Defendant was find £2 2s and costs £3 10s. The Avondale Links Co. and Seafield Ltd., were similarly- chcarged and fined similarly.
