VENICE.

CONNECTION WITH MAINLAND. MOTOR BRIDGE TO BE CONSTRUCTED. (Received 15. 9. 15 a.m.) Rome, November 14. After a century of controversy it has been decided to build a wide motor bridge two miles long, connecting Venice with th© mainland, abolishing th© necessity for the romantic gondola. Th© artistic world denounces tlie vandalistic decision.—(A. and N.Z.) Venice, situated in the Legune (lagoons) in a bay of th© Adriatic, is the capital of an Italian province of the same name. The city is-located on 117 islands separated by 150 canals and connected by 378 bridges. It already has railway communication with the mainland, so that the construction of a motor bridge would not seem to be an unduly violent innovation.
