M.C.C. \. NEW SOUTH WALES THE MATCH DRAWN. ' Sydney, March 5. The weather was fine and the wicket good. The attendance was small. Play commenced an hour earlier to enable the Englishmen to catch the Melbourne express. Calthorpe settled down to a patient innings. He soon lost Hill-Wood, who was caught behind the wickets. j Chapman gave a glimpse of his 1 earlier brilliancy when Hendry terminated his careed with a high left j hand catch at fine slip. | Titchmarsh and Calthorpe added GO runs before Mailey claimed the former, Who stepped across the wicket endeavouring to pull one to square leg. . Kelleway at cover point caught Man lean off the next ball. | Calthorpe reached a century after three hours and twenty minutes. He pulled Hendry, into the wickets ten runs later. His effort was invaluable but colourless. He gave three chances. Mailey’s bowling was a remarkable mixture of good balls and rubbish. Like Kelleway and Scott, his average suffered thiough faulty fielding on the New South Vales side, which was far below representative standard. Freeman and Gibson delighted the spectators with a lively last wicket partnership, adding 44 in 15 minute*. New South Wales’ first three batsmen threw their wickets away in endeavouring to rattle off 257 in 85 minutes. The succeeding batsmen played steadily, though Taylor lost no opportunity of punishing loose ones. Freeman captured three wickets and was compelled to retire with a strained finger, sustained in endeavouring to stop a late cut from Taylor. The I match was drawn. MARYLEBONE.
