WANGANUI WOOL SALE. ADVANCE OfToW GRADES. Wanganui, Jan. 8. The second wool sale offering of 15,000 bales was held before pne of the largest benches of buyers that has ever attended a sale Lt the Dominion. Competition for all grades of wool was most keen. A sharp rise is recorded on low and medium trossbreds, especially in carding sorts with little quality. Continental competition was very pronounced. A very large quantity of low and medium crossbred was purchased for that traae. The advance in the prices of low grades has given great satisfaction, as it shows that the revival of the wool trade whihe was previously restricted to fine qualities is now general, affecting the coarser as well as the finer grades. At the early sales last year the sales of low crossbred were made at 4d to sd; tb-day the same wools are bringing from 8d to lOd. Bradford operated fairly freely, but generally their limits were hardly ho elastic as the Continent’s. Lambs’ wool was eagerly sought, the French and American buyers being the chief operators. Here again prices showed a sharp rise when compared with fast sale rates. Good free bellies and pieces were in strong demand, French buyers taking a good proportion of the super lots, with also keen competition from th© Dominion scourers. Indications early in the sale showed a rise of Id to I£cl per lb. on low and medium crossbred. American sorts remained at par, the Americans taking any choice lots. Quotations: — ' Southdowns .... to 20Jd Crossbreds .... 7|d to 13$d Lambs 9d to 14$d A marked improvement was noticed in the get-up of the clips since the inception of the sales. The sale is not yet completed.
