CHARGE OF MURDER.
THE TREDENHAM AFFRAY. • FIREMAN COMMITTED FOR 'TRIAL. Auckland, Jan. 8. The hearing of the charge of murder against John Finnigan, following the death of Con O’Keefe, a fireman on the Tredenham, was resumed to-day. Dr. Milsom, who attended the deceased, stated that the skull was fractured. There was also a laceration in the interior of the brain, for which nothing could be done. Robert Marnsey, a fireman, said he heard Finnigan say to O’Keefe after the assault: “Get up on your feet.” O’Keefe lay still. There was blood on his face. Finnigan was drunk on the afternoon of New Year’s Day, but appeared sober when he , assaulted O’Keefe. He knew of no ill-feeling between the two men and did not think at the time that O’Keefe was seriously hurt. i Later. Finnigan was committed for trial on a charge of murdering O’Keefe, the Magistrate refusing to consider a plea to reduce the charge to one of manslaughter on the ground of the absence of a motive for the graver charge.
